Wix Smart Chat alternatives: what to check first
Wix Smart Chat is the chat app made by Wix. Before you replace it, it is worth knowing exactly what it does, how its AI answers are metered, and which of those things actually matter for your site. This page sticks to facts from the App Market and the Wix Help Center, each dated.
What Wix Smart Chat does
According to its App Market listing (Wix Smart Chat listing, checked October 16, 2026), Smart Chat combines AI chat and manual chat in one place. You choose how you are available: AI chat 24/7, manual chat from your Wix Inbox, or a mix on a schedule. It captures leads with contact forms, welcome messages and quick topics, tracks chat analytics such as conversations, visitors and response times, and is “Free to install”. The listing says it was previously known as Wix AI Site Chat and is designed to replace the old Wix Chat with one unified solution.
As of October 16, 2026, the listing shows an average rating of 2.7 from 157 reviews: 47 five-star, 17 four-star, 11 three-star, 13 two-star and 69 one-star (same listing, checked October 16, 2026). A rating is a summary of other people’s experience, not a prediction of yours; read a few recent reviews for the reasons behind it.
How the AI part is metered
Smart Chat’s AI answers use the AI credits that come with your Wix site plan, from a balance shared with other Wix AI tools such as the AI Custom Agent and the AI Marketing Agent (Wix Help Center: Smart Chat and AI credits, checked October 16, 2026). When the credits run out, Smart Chat switches to offline mode; you can customise the offline settings or set availability to manual chat so you answer messages yourself.
The Help Center article on AI credits (About AI Credits, checked October 16, 2026) gives the following figures. On the free Wix plan: up to 30 credits a day, to a maximum of 120 credits a month. For Premium plans it gives estimated Smart Chat actions a month, which Wix says are examples and not guaranteed: up to 150 on Light, up to 200 on Core, up to 300 on Business and up to 1,000 on Business Elite. Unused credits do not roll over, and the same credits are consumed by the other AI tools in your account.
The practical question is simple: how many visitor questions a month do you expect, and is that number safely under your plan’s estimate after everything else in your account has used the same credits?
What to check in an alternative
- Where the answers come from. From your site’s pages, from documents you upload, or from a general model? For a business site you want answers tied to your pages, with a link to the source.
- What it does when it does not know. A short “I don’t have that on this website” plus your contact details, not a guess.
- How it is metered. AI credits, messages, conversations or a flat number. Ask what happens on the day the allowance ends and whether the bill can be higher than the plan price.
- Whether you need a human in the loop. If you want to take over conversations yourself, or route them to WhatsApp or Messenger, choose an app that lists live chat or those channels. Not every AI chatbot does; FlatRateChat does not.
- Site plan requirements. Some listings say “Premium Site Required”; others install on a free Wix site.
- What happens when you leave. Uninstalling should turn the bubble off and delete your content within a stated period.

Where FlatRateChat fits
FlatRateChat is the narrow option on that table. It reads your published pages and answers from them, shows your contact details when it does not know, and is priced flat. It has no live-agent handoff, no WhatsApp or Messenger, no lead forms and no order tracking. If your main reason for leaving Smart Chat is the AI credit meter and you do not need a human in the chat, it is built for exactly that. If you need live chat or messaging channels, one of the other apps on the table is the better fit.
