Chatbase pricing explained: what you’ll actually pay

Chatbase publishes its prices in two ways, monthly and yearly, and meters usage in message credits whose cost per response depends on the model. This page lays out every figure from Chatbase’s pricing page and documentation as they stood on October 22, 2026, then works one example so you can estimate your own bill. We have not tested Chatbase’s agents and say nothing about how well they answer.

Chatbase has since renamed its Standard and Pro plans Basic and Business; prices and listed features unchanged (re-checked October 28, 2026). The page shows yearly billing as “20% off” and labels the yearly prices “/month billed yearly”; the yearly totals above are those monthly figures multiplied by 12. Each plan includes one AI agent.

Add-ons

The same page, under “Get more out of your plans”, lists four add-ons (checked October 22, 2026):

  1. Auto recharge credits: $40 per 1,000 message credits. Chatbase describes it as adding credits automatically “when your credits fall below the threshold you set”; the added credits do not expire. Its usage guide adds that auto-recharge credits are only used when subscription credits run out.
  2. Extra agents: $300 per AI agent a year. Every plan includes one agent.
  3. Remove “Powered By Chatbase”: $1,188 a year. Removes the Chatbase branding from deployed agents.
  4. Extra storage: $300 per 10 MB a year. Each plan lists 40 MB of training content.

How message credits are used

A credit is not always one message. The Chatbase FAQ (checked October 22, 2026) says each response from the agent “consumes credits based on the AI model used” and lists the current rates: 1 credit for “all other models”, which it calls the most economical; 2 credits for a group that includes GPT-6.1 Sol, Claude 5.5 Sonnet, GPT-5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.8 Flash and several others; 4 credits for GPT-5.5; and 5 credits for Claude 5.5 Opus. Chatbase’s models comparison shows the same tiers, with “Auto”, GPT-6 Luna and Claude 5.5 Haiku at 1 credit.

Credits renew “monthly on the 1st of each month, regardless of when you subscribed”, so a subscription started late in a month gets a shorter first period. The pricing page also lists separate “test credits” (200, 500 and 1,000 a month) for trying the agent in the dashboard.

What happens at the limit

The FAQ says that when credits are exhausted the agent displays “This AI Agent is currently unavailable. If you are the owner, please check your account.” The usage guide puts it as: when your message credits run out, your AI agents stop responding until the credits reset. If you have turned on auto recharge, credits are added at $40 per 1,000 (checked October 22, 2026) before that happens. Chatbase’s pages do not describe any other fallback for visitors, and we do not claim one.

A worked example

This is an example, not a quote. Assumptions: a small business site whose chatbot answers 1,500 visitor questions a month; one question is one response; the agent uses a 1-credit model (Chatbase’s base rate); prices as checked October 22, 2026.

  1. Basic, billed monthly: $150. Its 4,000 credits cover 1,500 responses with 2,500 to spare. Billed yearly it is $120 a month, paid as $1,440 up front.
  2. Hobby plus auto recharge: about $80 that month. Hobby’s 700 credits cover the first 700 responses; the remaining 800 need one 1,000-credit recharge at $40, so $40 for the plan plus $40 for credits. The 200 unused recharge credits do not expire and are used first the next time subscription credits run out.
  3. Same site on a 2-credit model: 3,000 credits. Hobby would need three recharges ($120) on top of $40; Basic’s 4,000 credits would still cover it.

Change any assumption and the numbers move: a 4- or 5-credit model, several responses per visitor question, or a busier month all use credits faster. Chatbase shows usage on its Usage page, so the real figure is there once you have run an agent for a month.

How FlatRateChat prices it

FlatRateChat counts answers, one per visitor question, and the plan price is the most you pay. On any website it is Starter at $19 a month (100 pages, 1,000 answers) or Full at $59 a month (500 pages, 5,000 answers). It starts with a 14-day free trial (a card is needed to start it, but nothing is charged until day 15). On Wix there is a Free plan with 50 pages and 100 answers a month, then Starter at $19 a month and Full at $59 a month (yearly $15 / $49). Paid plans keep answering at up to 10 answers an hour above the included answers, with no overage charges. Answers come only from your site’s own published pages, and each one links the page it came from; when the answer is not there, the bot says so and shows your contact details. It can be wrong sometimes, like any AI, and your content isn’t used to train AI models. The Wix chatbot pricing page has the plan details, and the Chatbase alternative page puts the two products side by side.

The FlatRateChat page in a Wix dashboard on the free plan, with a notice that at the current pace the 100 free answers will be used around October 21 and that the Full plan keeps answering all month, above a Free, Starter and Full comparison box.
FlatRateChat shows the month’s answers used and, on the free plan, when they are likely to run out. There are no credits to buy.
